FRESNO, Calif. -Chris Herren scored 27 points to lead Fresno State to a 101-80 victory against San Diego State Thursday night.
Fresno State (14-7, 4-2 Western Athletic Conference) set a school record by making 18 3-point baskets in the game and Herren equaled the individual mark by hitting on nine.
Myron Epps led San Diego State (2-16, 0-6) with a career-high 24 points. San Diego State has yet to win a regular season conference game against Fresno, losing 12 straight since 1992.
Fresno State missed nine of its first 10 3-point shot attempts. But the Bulldogs then made eight 3-pointers over the final 11 minutes of the first half to open up a 45-24 half-time lead.
Herren had 15 in the first half.
San Diego State cut the lead to 15 points with just over eight minutes left in the game but Fresno then ran off 13-straight points in a span of less than two minutes to seal the victory.
Willie Farley, who had 18 for Fresno, scored six in that run. Demetrius Porter came off the bench to score 15 and Courtney Alexander and Randy Holcomb each had 13 for Fresno State.
Matt Watts finished with 19 for San Diego State and Vince Okotie added 10. Fresno State was without starting center Melvin Ely, who was ill. Ely is the team's third-leading scorer averaging 12.3 points per game and leads the team in rebounding with 7.3 per game.
