SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State mens golf team finished day one at the 1999 NCAA Golf Championships tied with Toledo and South Carolina for 23rd place in the 30-team field. All three teams shot a 20-over 308 and are 19 strokes behind the leader, Oklahoma State, which carded a team score of 289.
The 72-hole tournament is being held at the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota
Kurt Cassidy was SDSUs low individual, finishing the day at even par with a 72. He is tied for 13th place, four strokes behind leader Chris Wisler who shot a four-under 68.
Aztecs James Stewart and Scott Piercy each finished the afternoon with a six-over 78 while teammates Magnus Carlsson (80) and Gundy Jones (81) were eight and nine over par respectively. The teams standings after the first day are as follows
