Men's Golf Remains in Sixth Place at West Regionals

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State mens golf team remained in sixth place after 36 holes at the 1999 NCAA West Regional being contested in Tucson, Arizona. The Aztecs team score of 588 is 17 shots off the lead, held by Arizona State with a total of 571. UNLV and Brigham Young are tied for second, six strokes off the pace at 577.

For the second day in a row, SDSU was led by senior James Stewart. The native of Hong Kong shot a one-under 71 and sits in a three-way tie for second place, just two strokes behind leader Jeff Quinney of Arizona State.

Scott Piercy shot a 73 for the second straight day to end the day in 16th place. One stroke behind him is Kurt Cassidy at 147, tied with 11 others for the 20th spot. Meanwhile, Gundy Jones turned in a 77 for a two-day total of 155 with Magnus Carlsson shot an 81 to finish at 158 after 36 holes.

Final round action from the 1999 NCAA West Regional continues tomorrow. The top-nine schools in the 189-team Regional field will qualify for the NCAA Championships.
