Men's Golf in Third After WAC's First Day

SAN DIEGO - After the first day of play at the 1999 Western Athletic Conference Championships, the San Diego State men's golf team is tied for fifth-place. The Aztecs fired a team 295 on the par 72, 6,835 yard Poppy Hills Golf Course in Monterey, Calif. Twentieth-ranked Brigham Young leads the 16-team field at 285, while No. 2 UNLV is in second at 292.

Leading the men from Montezuma Mesa is Magnus Carlsson. The junior from Heilngborg, Sweden leads all SDSU golfers at fifth-place after shooting an even par 72. Senior Kurt Cassidy and sophomore Larry Correa are both tied for 10th at 73. Other Aztec competitors include senior James Stewart (T33rd, 77) and Scott Piercy (T58, 80).

Second round actions continues tomorrow from the WAC Championships. Results will be faxed to all media.
