Men's Basketball Loses to New Mexico St., 66-55

SAN DIEGO - Billy Keys scored a season-high 21 points to lead New Mexico State past San Diego State 66-55 Tuesday night.

The Aggies (6-4) handed the Aztecs (1-9) their the fourth straight loss. San Diego State has matched its poorest start since 1985-86.

Charles Gosa had 10 points and a season-high 12 rebounds, while Aaron Boldt added 11 points for New Mexico State, which won for the fourth time in five games.

The Aggies, who held a 31-23 halftime lead, expanded their advantage to 45-30 early in the second half by scoring three straight shots from underneath the basket. During that spurt, San Diego State center Marcelo Correa was on the bench with three fouls.

Correa and Myron Epps each scored 11 points for the Aztecs, who made only 33 percent of their field goal attempts (21-of-63).

New Mexico State led 51-34 lead midway through the second half and held its biggest lead at 66-47 with 2:39 to go.

In the first half, the Aggies used a 7-1 run to build a 18-9 lead. Keys then scored nine of his 11 first-half points over the final 6 1/2 minutes of the half.

Earlier, Charles Gosa hit back-to-back field goals to trigger a 6-0 spurt that put New Mexico State ahead to stay at 11-5.

The Aztecs shot only 31 percent in the first half (8-of-26).
