LOS ANGELES (AP) - Willie Allen scored 15 points and Tim Kennedy added 14 points and blocked four shots Saturday to lead Loyola Marymount to a 73-65 victory over San Diego State.
The Lions (3-3) led 38-31 at halftime and increased their advantage to 67-54 on two free throws by Ed Wolfe with 4:33 remaining.The Aztecs (1-6) responded with seven consecutive points, but the Lions' Silvester Kainga made a layup off an offensive rebound with 1:56 remaining to stop the rally.LMU made four of six free throws in the final minute and the Aztecs got no closer than six points.The Lions also got 12 points off the bench from freshman Robert Davis. LMU played without Haywood Eaddy, one of its leading scorers. He missed his third game of the season because of an ankle injury.Matt Watt led San Diego State with 18 points, and freshman Myron Epps recorded his first double-double, 15 points and 14 rebounds.The Aztecs are off to their worst start since the 1985-86 season, when they lost their first seven games.
