SAN DIEGO (AP) - Donnie Johnson scored 18 points, including a tie-breaking tip-in with 38 seconds left, to lead Utah State to a 63-60 victory over San Diego State on Tuesday.
The win gave the Aggies their first 4-0 start since 1977-78. San Diego State dropped to 0-4 for the first time since 1985-86, when the Aztecs started 0-7.
Myron Epps, who scored seven of the Aztecs' last 10 points, hit a three-pointer to make it 57-57 with 1:38 to play. But Johnson's tip-in gave Utah State a 59-57 advantage, and Tony Brown's two free throws extended it to 61-57 with 18 seconds left.
San Diego State's Donte Wilson cut the margin to 61-60 on a three-pointer with 12 seconds remaining.
On the next possession, Utah State's Tyrone Allick missed two free throws with eight seconds left, but the Aztecs failed to take advantage as Brady Trenkle threw the ball away.
Utah State's Pharoah Davis added two free throws to give his team a three-point cushion.
Johnson also had a game-high 11 rebounds, while Troy Rolle also scored 18 points for the Aggies.
Matt Watts led San Diego State with 14 points, while Trenkle came off the bench for 13.
