Crabtree Clears 13 Feet in Pole Vault-Sets School Record

SAN DIEGO -

San Diego State junior Aimee Crabtree cleared 13-0 1/4 to set a SDSU record and win the pole vault at the SDSU Quad Meet today at the Arco Olympic Training Center.

Winning the overall meet in women's competition was the University of Michigan with 197 points followed by the University of Washington with 196 points. San Diego State finished third with 158.5 points and the University of New Mexico rounded out the field with 110.50 points. Michigan also took first-place honors in the men's field with 165.50 points followed by Washington (158) and New Mexico (68.50).

With her vault, Crabtree has qualified for USA Track & Field Nationals to be held in June in Oregon and is among the top three vaulters in the nation. The Pocatello, Idaho native missed the NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 13-1 1/2, but she is provisionally qualified for the Nationals which will be held in Boise, Idaho in June.

"My goal today was to clear 12 feet and my personal best was 12-5 3/4," Crabtree said. "I have been breaking down my vault and working on the little things and it paid off today. It felt like it was going to be a great day and the fact that we finished 1-2 is even better," she added.

Aztec Kristi Draher recorded her best performance in the vault with a 12-3 1/4 mark for second place honors.

Senior All-American Miesha McKelvy continued to shine for the Aztecs as she took first-place honors in the 100 meter dash (11.98), 200 meter dash (24.52) and the 100 meter hurdles (13.14). Senior Lisa Domico, who jumped 20-1 at the UNLV Invitational last weekend, finished second today in the long jump with a 19-8 3/4 behind Michigan's Brandi Bentley (20-4 1/2).

The Aztecs will next compete at the Mt. SAC Relays which are held in Walnut Creek, Calif. April 15-18.
