SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State Aztec baseball team took both ends of a doubleheader at Hawaii-Hilo on Tuesday by scores of 5-3 and 12-6. The wins improved SDSUs record to 4-2 while dropping the Vulcans to 4-15 on the season.
Senior lefthander Joe Garibaldi went the distance for the Aztecs in the seven-inning opener of the twin bill. The offense was provided by senior outfielder Ryan Hurd with a two-run single in the second and another RBI base hit in the seventh.
In the nightcap, the Aztecs opened with four runs in the first and never looked back. Senior A.J. Samadani picked up his second win of the season in his second start to improve to 2-0.
SDSU put the game away in the fifth with a five-run outburst that was capped by Edgar Gonzalezs grand slam, the first homer in the Aztec sophomore shortstops career. Hurd also continued his hot hitting, going 3-for-6 with a home run.
The Aztecs and Vulcans conclude their four-game series with a single contest in Hilo on Wednesday evening at 5:00 p.m.
