Baseball Loses to USD, 12-2

SAN DIEGO - The University of San Diego Toreros touched up four San Diego State pitchers for 17 hits en route to 12-2 win over the Aztecs Tuesday evening at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The victory improved USDs season record to 25-19 while SDSU fell to 23-26.

The Toreros scored three runs in the first off starter Jeff Dufek (2-2), who suffered his second loss of the season. Dufek went three innings, allowing six earned runs before giving way to Jeremy Cook (2 runs), Mike Garber (3 runs) and Marcos Mendoza (3 runs).

USD used three pitchers, with starter Kevin Gray picking up the win to improve to 5-2. Outfielder Chris Kahl was the hitting star for the Toreros, going 5-for-5 with three doubles and a pair of runs batted in.

For the Aztecs, soph outfielder Robert Womack had a pair of hits with one RBI and a stolen base as SDSU struggled on offense for the sixth consecutive game. Over their last half dozen contests, the Aztecs have scored just 18 runs.

San Diego State resumes conference action with a three-game WAC series at UNLV this weekend. Game times are 7:00 p.m. on Friday (April 30) and Saturday (May 1), and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday (May 2).
