SAN DIEGO - Nine runs in the first three innings and a sterlingpitching effort from Matt Smith carried Oklahoma State to a 12-2 victoryat San Diego State on Friday.

Smith allowed just three hits, no runs and four walks while striking out 10in six innings of work. He picked up his third victory of the young season.

OSU staked Smith to far more runs than he needed, giving him an 11-0run before he left the game. The Cowboys broke the game open with asix-run third inning, capped by Jimbo McAuliff's grand slam. BillyGasparino had three hits, and Josh Holliday and Kevin Lucas had twoeach, to pace OSU's offensive effort.

The Aztecs continue action in the ARCO San Diego State Classic on Saturday,when they face No. 15 Arizona in a 7 p.m. game.
