Baseball Grounds Air Force

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State baseball team snapped a four-game Western Athletic Conference losing streak by defeating Air Force, 17-9 on Sunday in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Aztecs (15-14 overall; 5-4 WAC) fell behind the Falcons (15-15 overall; 2-4 WAC) early, surrendering three first inning runs. Air Force's lead would be short-lived, however, as SDSU exploded for six runs in the top of the second, with senior second baseman Javier Ramos delivering the big blow with a grand slam.

The Falcons replied with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second to narrow the gap to 6-5. That was as close as Air Force would get for the remainder of the game, as the Aztecs added five more runs in the fifth and three in the ninth to avoid being swept by the Falcons in the three-game series.

Ramos enjoyed a career day for SDSU, going five-for-six, belting three home runs and driving in six runs. Junior right fielder Paul Lockhart also had a big day for the Aztecs, cranking two homers of his own and driving in seven.

The Falcons were led by senior utility man Mike Stolley and sophomore first baseman Ryan Carville, each of whom had three hits.

SDSU will travel to Fort Worth, Texas for a three-game WAC set with the TCU Horned Frogs on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
