SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State Aztec baseball team (7-7) dropped an 8-5 decision to UCLA (8-10) in the final game of the 1999 Arco San Diego Classic on Sunday, February 21 at SDSUs Tony Gwynn Stadium.

Bruin starter John Brandt limited the Aztecs to three hits and one unearned run over the first seven innings to pick up his third win of the season. SDSU starter A.J. Samadani took the loss to even his record at 2-2.

UCLA got a three-run homer from first baseman Chase Utley in a four-run fifth inning that staked the Bruins to a 6-1 lead.

SDSU came back with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull within a run at 6-5, but UCLA tallied twice in the ninth and reliever Rob Roe retired the side in the bottom of the inning to seal the win.

The Aztec managed only three hits in the game, one of which was by outfielder Paul Lockhart to extend his hitting streak to 21 games dating back to last season.
