Baseball Falls to Tulane, 4-2

SAN DIEGO - Henry Bonilla struck out 12 in his Tulane debut as the visiting Green Wave defeated San Diego State, 4-2, Saturday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Bonilla (1-0), a junior college transfer, fanned 10 Aztecs through the first five innings en route to his first victory. He gave up eight hits and two runs without allowing a walk in eight innings of work. Brandon Belanger pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save of the season.

Tulane jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the fourth on Jake Gautreau's second homer of the weekend. The Green Wave added two more runs in the fifth when Matt Groff scored from third on a shortstop's error and James Jurries singled home Andy Cannizaro.

SDSU (6-4) cut Tulane's lead in half in the sixth on base hits by Ben Leuthard and Robert Womack.

Cannizaro led the Wave with a 3-for-4 game, while Jurries and Paul Boudreaux added two hits apiece.

Aztec starter A.J. Samadani (2-1), who gave up all four Tulane runs on seven hits in four innings, was tagged with the loss.
