SAN DIEGO - Eddie Misques scattered nine hits in a complete-game performance, leading New Mexico (20-19-1, 8-8 WAC) to a 10-2 Western AthleticConference win over SDSU (18-20, 5-8 WAC) Friday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
The Lobos, winners of seven straight, got on the board in the second inning thanks to a two out-out rally and some sub-par defense by the Aztecs. After Cory Robbins grounded out to third and Dee Dennis flied out to right, Mike Campbell reached on an error by Aztec second baseman Javier Ramos. Steve Elzy singled to advance Campbell to second and Miguel Montiel struck out, but reached safely on an error by SDSU catcher Brandon Rogers. The miscue allowed Campbell to score the games first run and opened the floodgates for UNM. Chris Armstrong singled to plate Elzy, then Lon Yamaguchi doubled, scoring Montiel and Armstrong. Aaron Sisk followed with an RBI single, and by the time the dust had settled New Mexico had a 5-0 lead, with all five runs being unearned.
The Lobos plated four more runs in the sixth inning, starting the frame with five consecutive singles to score two runs. With the bases loaded and no outs, Robbins and Dennis hit back-to-back sacrifice flies, and the Lobos led 9-0.
The top three hitters in the New Mexico lineup - Armstrong (2-for-5), Yamaguchi (4-for-4) and Sisk (3-for-5) - went a combined 9-14 with six runs and seven RBI.
Misquis (5-4) went the distance for the fourth timethis season to pick up the victory. Along the way he struck out eight whileallowing just two runs (one earned).
Tyler Echelbarger had a team-high two hits for the Aztecs.
