SAN DIEGO - Senior Javier Ramos two-run double in the bottom of the ninth gave San Diego State (9-8) a 13-12 win over Southwest Texas (4-11) in a game played in Houston on Sunday (February 28). It was a contests which the Aztecs seemed destined to win, then lose, then finally win in the end.
San Diego State took a 10-5 lead into the ninth, but three Aztec hurlers gave up seven runs in the top of the inning and the Bobcats found themselves three outs away from a 12-10 victory.
The bottom of the ninth began with singles by Matt Ricardy and Brandon Rogers. A sac bunt moved the runners up a base before Robert Womack reached safely on an error by the Bobcat second baseman with Ricardy scoring. Ramos, who had hit his first home run in four seasons as an Aztec the day before, promptly doubled to right to score Rogers and Womack and give SDSU the win.
Ricardy had his best game of the season at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double and scoring three times. Junior Outfielder Paul Lockhart went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and in the process extended his hitting streak to 24 games going back to last season.
Jeremy Cook (2-3) picked up the win in relief after getting the final two outs in the ninth. Starter Mike Garber went the first seven innings, allowing six hits and five runs (three earned) in a solid performance.
