SAN DIEGO - San Diego State needed 13 innings to secure a 14-13 win over Southwest Texas in a game played in Houston on Saturday (February 27). The win evened the Aztecs season mark at 8-8 while the Bobcats fell to 4-10.
After getting only six hits the night before against Houston, San Diego State exploded for 27 against Southwest Texas, two short of the school mark. The Aztec attack was led by Robert Womack, Javier Ramos, Paul Lockhart, Sean Pierce and Ben Leuthard who tallied three hits apiece. Pierce had his second home run of the season while Ramos, a senior, hit the first round tripper of his Aztec career.
Trailing 11-9, SDSU rallied for three runs in the top of the eighth to take a 12-11 lead, but the Bobcats tied the game in the bottom of the inning to force extra frames. The Aztecs took the lead with a run in the twelfth on an RBI single by Brandon Rogers, but the Bobcats answered back with an unearned run in the bottom of the inning.
In the top of the 13th, freshman Chad Chops single to left scored Billy Montgomery with the winning run. Senior reliever Jeff Dufek picked up his second win of the season, going the final seven innings. It was Dufeks longest stint in a game in his four seasons at SDSU.
