SAN DIEGO -

The San Diego State women's rowing team won The Berg Cup Saturday, March 20 at Lido Channel in Newport Beach, Calif.

The Aztecs continued to impress in their third race of the spring season. The women from Montezuma Mesa brought home the team trophy by winning the varsity eight by over 25 seconds, the second varsity eight by nine seconds, and the novice four by 12 seconds. SDSU's only loss came in the novice (first year rowers) eight race where they finished a respectable third to The University of San Diego and Orange Coast College.

"It is a good measuring stick to judge early season performances and try to see which crews are faster before the NCAA determines who will receive invitations to the NCAA National Championships of women's rowing held in late May," said head coach Scott Steckel. "The Aztecs have set high goals for themselves this year, and they are a good group that could surprise some teams in this their first year as a varsity sport."

San Diego State returns to action this weekend, March 27- 28, when they will compete in the 26th Annual San Diego Crew Classic at Crown Point on Mission Bay.
