SAN DIEGO -
The San Diego State men's golf team finished tied for fourth with Washington today at the Oregon Duck Invitational at the Eugene Country Club (par 72, 6,847 yards) in Eugene, Ore. The Aztecs shot a team 298-302-293-893, 24 strokes behind the winner, Oregon. Eighth-ranked Arizona State finished second at 876 and Oregon State placed third (890).
Three Aztecs recorded top-25 individual finishes. The Men from Montezuma Mesa were led by Kurt Cassidy. The senior from Vancouver finished 12th after firing a 72-75-74-221. Sophomore Scott Piercy shot a 76-76-72-224 en route to a 14th-place tie. Junior Magnus Carlsson registered a 24th-place tie after shooting a 75-77-75-227.
Other SDSU finishers included senior James Stewart (T35th, 229), sophomore Larry Correa (T51st, 234) and sophomore Ryan Donovan (T73rd, 242).
After a three-way tie for first place, Oregon's Adrian Burtner (71-69-75-215)took home the individual title after winning a playoff. His teammate, Ben Crane and Matt Jones of ASU both placed second.
The Scarlet and Black return to action when they travel to Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif. for the Western Intercollegiate April 4-6.
