SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's golf team tied for 10th-place today at the 53rd Annual Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Course (par 70, 6,445 yards) in Santa Cruz, Calif. The Aztecs finished in a four-way tie with Texas-El Paso, UC-Santa Barbara and Pacific after shooting a team 305-306-611.
Twelfth-ranked Washington ran away the team title, firing a team 299-285-584, 15 strokes ahead of second-place Pepperdine. Oregon State finished third with a 601.
Individually, sophomores Larry Correa and Scott Piercy and senior James Stewart led the way for SDSU. All three Aztecs finished tied for 29th with a score of 153. Junior Magnus Carlsson shot a 76-78-154 to tie for 40th, while senior Kurt Cassidy tied for 51st, recording an 80-76-156.
Stanford's Joel Kribel won the individual championship. Kribel, the only golfer in the entire 89-man field who finished under par, registered a one-under 72-67-139. Washington's Rob Rashell took second, shooting a 74-70-144. Four golfers tied for third-place.
The Scarlet and Black return to action Tuesday and Wednesday, April 20-21 when they travel to Provo, Utah for the Brigham Young Invitational.
