Aztecs in Sixth After First Day of Play at Western Intercollegiate

The San Diego State men's golf team is in sixth-place after the first round at the 53rd Annual Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Course (par 70, 6,445 yards) in Santa Cruz, Calif. The Aztecs shot a team 306, six strokes behind the leader, No. 13 Washington. Pepperdine (301) and Nevada (303) round out the top three.

The men from Montezuma Mesa were led by senior James Stewart and sophomore Larry Correa. They both registered identical scores of 75 en route to a 12th-place tie. Junior Magnus Carlsson is tied for 22nd, one stroke behind both Stewart and Correa. Sophomore Scott Piercy (79) and senior Kurt Cassidy (80) are tied for 46th and 53rd respectively.

Colorado State's Robby Stephenson, Stanford's Joel Kribel, San Jose State's Brandon Kearney and Texas El-Paso's Mark Gonzalez all share the lead at two-over 72.
