SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Michael Quinney scored 22 points and added seven assists and San Jose State defeated San Diego State 82-57 Saturday afternoon in the Western Athletic Conference.
Terrance Richmond added 16 points as all five starters reached double figures for the Spartans (11-9, 4-3 WAC).
Donte Wilson, who scored 17 of his 22 points in the second half, led the Aztecs (2-17, 0-7), who lost their seventh straight and are suffering through their worst start in seven years.
San Diego State, winless on the road in 10 games, scored nine consecutive points at the beginning of the second half to close within 47-33 with 15:57 remaining to play.
Following the ensuing timeout, San Jose State went on a 14-2 run to regain control of the game with a 61-35 edge midway through the second half. The Aztecs never got closer than 20 points after that.
Following a sluggish start, San Jose State went on a 22-3 scoring spree to take a 26-7 lead midway through the first half.
The Spartans eventually built a 28-point advantage before the Aztecs scored the final seven points of the first half to close within 45-24 at halftime.
San Jose State, setting a season high for points scored in the first half, made 17 of its first 22 shots and scored at a 68 percent clip compared to San Diego State's 28 percent pace in the half.
Will Trawick had 13 points for San Jose State, while Shaun Murray and R.J. Powell each had 12. Myron Epps added 13 points and Vince Okotie 11 for the Aztecs.
