San Diego State completed its four-game series at Hawaii-Hilo with a 5-2 victory over the Vulcans on Wednesday evening in Hilo. The win lifted SDSUs record to 5-2 as it prepares for Fridays home opener at Tony Gwynn Stadium. UHH fell to 4-16 on the season.
Junior righthander David Caron went the distance to pick up his first win of the season. Along the way he struck out seven while allowing just two unearned runs.
The Aztec offense was again led by center fielder Ryan Hurd who hit his third homer of the season (a solo shot in the sixth) and also contributed an RBI single. Third baseman John Pashales continued his hot hitting with a pair of singles and one run batted in.
San Diego State begins its 1999 home season on Friday (February 11) with games against Nevada (at 2:00 p.m.) and 25th-ranked Tulane (at 7:00 p.m.).
