SAN DIEGO -
The San Diego State softball team swept Southern Utah today in front of 174 at SDSU field, 7-3 and 12-2. The sweep extends SDSU's season-long winning streak to six games.
The Aztecs set the tone early in the first game, scoring six runs in the first three innings. In the first inning, SDSU scored three runs on three hits. After tallying two more runs in the second inning, freshman Summer Ehrsam capped off the third with her first-career home run, a solo-shot over the center field fence. Tami Simpson added run more run in the fifth when she hit the first home run of her career.
The Thunderbirds scored all their runs in the fourth inning off of four hits and two Aztec errors.
With the victory in the first game, freshman pitcher Korin Gregory improved her record to 2-4 (7.0 IP, 8 H, 3R, 1 BB, 1 SO).
In game two, the Aztecs opened the scoring with three runs in the second behind a solo home run by Ehrsam. Southern Utah responded with two runs in the third, but the Aztecs opened the flood gates in their half of the inning when they scored a season-high nine runs on six hits.
Sophomore Angela Torres pitcher evened her record to 1-1 as she pitched a complete game ( 5.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R 7 SO).
The Aztecs return to action when they compete in the Kia Classic in Fullerton, Calif. Wednesday, March 17 thru Sunday March 21.
