Aztec Men's Volleyball Wins First Match Of Season

The San Diego State men's volleyball team won its first match of the season February 16th against cross-town rival UCSD 4-1 (15-5, 10-15, 15-13, 15-11). The win gave the Aztecs a one-match lead over UCSD in the MPSF Pacific Division standings. Junior outside hitter Hans Stolfus was an unstoppable force for the Aztecs recording a season-high 25 kills and five errors on 38 attempts (.526), eight digs and two total blocks. Seniors Brian Corso and Tom Hunter also contributed greatly for the Red and Black. Corso had his best match of the year with 21 kills, two service aces, nine digs and 11 total blocks. Hunter finished the match registering 15 kills on 29 attempts (.414), six digs and 12 total blocks. The Tritons were led by senior middle blocker Devon Jeffcoat who recorded a team-high 19 kills, eight digs and four total blocks. The win gives the Aztecs an overall record of 1-5 (1-5 in the MPSF). SDSU travels to Hawai'i to take on the Rainbow Warriors on February 24th and 26th. The Aztecs next home match will be on March 7th against #3 Lewis University in Peterson Gym at 7:00 p.m.
