SAN DIEGO (AP) - Matt Watts had 17 points to lead five San Diego State players in double figures Wednesday night as the Aztecs breezed past Southern California College 103-49 for their first victory this season.
San Diego State (1-5) topped its previous season high in scoring by 37 points.The Aztecs expanded on a 45-28 halftime lead with the help of 8-of-10 shooting from 3-point range in the second half. In the first half, they were 1-of-6 from that range.Watts was 8-of-11 from the field and had a game-high six assists. Vincent Okotie recorded 16 points and eight rebounds while David Abramowitz added 15 points, all on three pointers, for the Aztecs. San Diego State ended its longest season-opening losing streak since going 0-7 to open the 1985-86 season.All 12 players scored for San Diego State. Eleven players scored in the first half for the Aztecs, which used 12 players before halftime.Kevin Bradley had 17 points to lead Southern California (2-5), which set a season-low for scoring. The Vanguards also committed 34 turnovers.The Aztecs built a 21-14 lead in the first nine minutes, and then led 45-28 at the half.San Diego State took a 10-2 edge in the opening four minutes, while the Vanguards committed six turnovers. But Southern California College rallied for a 10-10 tie just two minutes later, led by Bradley with five points.
