AZTECS FINISH SIXTH IN WAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The San Diego State University women's golf team finished sixth out of 11 teams with a overall team score of 309-316-324(949), today at the WAC Championships in Livermore, Calif. The event took place at the Poppy Ridge Golf Course which is a 54-hole, 6,133 yards, par 72 course.
Niina Laitinen made a 12-foot putt on the final hole to earn the individual title and secured the team title for the University of Tulsa who scored a 296-319-308(923) to win the 1999 Western Athletic Conference Golf Championships. Laitinen's putt gave them a one-stroke lead over favored TCU.
The top player for the Aztecs was freshman Hiroko Fukushima who tied for 10th-place with an overall score of 77-77-80(234). Fukushima was named to the All-Western Athletic Conference team. Sophomore Joanne Clingan tied for 13th-place with an overall score of 76-78-82(236).
