The years of wishing and hoping have come to an end for San Diego State athletes and their fans. They have been replaced by reality.
In August of 2001, all facets of the Department of Athletics relocated to the newly constructed Aztec Athletic Center. The construction of the new complex comes on the heels of the completion of Tony Gwynn Stadium, Viejas Arena and the SDSU Sports Deck. On April 30, 2011 the Athletics Center was re-dedicated to bear the name of Fowler Athletics Center.
- The athletic center is a four-story, 130,000 square foot structure located just west of Viejas Arena on 55th Street, just south of Peterson Gym. Some of the building's highlights follow.
- It serves as the first permanent home of the Hall of Fame. The 5,000-square foot museum is located on the first floor and is one of the centerpieces of the complex.
- A state-of-the-art weight room encompasses 13,000 square feet and is also located on the first floor. It includes a running track for indoor timing.
- The second floor houses the Aztec football staff and features a recruiting lounge and 11 meeting rooms.
- The third floor is the home of the athletic administration, an academic center that features a computer lab, lecture rooms and private study rooms, as well as men's and women's basketball staff.
- The Aztec coaching staffs and more administrative offices occupy the fourth floor.
