Aztecs Prepared for ITA Regionals

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State men's tennis team is going to Malibu, Calif., this weekend for the ITA Southwest Regional Championships. The five-day tournament runs from Thursday, Oct. 19 through Monday, Oct. 23 on the Pepperdine. Eight players from the SDSU roster will compete in both singles and doubles. San Diego State is one of 15 schools with players in this weekend's tournament.
 
The first Aztec to compete this fall, Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice had a pair of impressive wins to make it out of qualifying play in the USTA Pro Futures event.
 
Winner of his first four sets this season, Mathieu Josserand comes into the weekend with a 2-2 record.
 
Coming in with a 3-2 record, Alexander Mandma performed well in the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic, where he won two of his three singles matches.
 
Making his season debut, Lenny Melzer has not appeared in a singles match since October 22, 2022, when he played in this same tournament last year.
 
Robin Parts earned a win in the last ITA event he competed in when the Wisconsin transfer won one of his two matches in the ITA All-American Championships.
 
Andre Saleh appeared for the first time this season in the UCSB Fall Classic during the first weekend of October.
 
Holding on to a winning record so far this fall, Chikaya Sato won in the first round of the ITA All-American Championships and two times in last weekend's San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic.
 
Entering with a perfect 3-0 record, Liam Spiers won the UCSB Fall Classic in his lone tournament appearance so far this fall.

After the ITA Southwest Regional Championships, San Diego State will head to Los Angeles for the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships between Thursday, Oct. 26, and Sunday, Oct. 29.
