Bio entering 2011 season.

San Diego native Sophia Perez enters her first season at San Diego State as an assistant coach. The 2004 graduate of SDSU will work primarily with the Aztec goalkeepers.

A two-year letterwinner at San Diego State, Perez was an all-Mountain West Conference first-team performer in 2004 and was named to the MWC all-tournament team. In the conference tournament, Perez helped the Aztecs reach the finals and was named tournament MVP after shutting out each of SDSU[apos]s three opponents.

Following her Aztec career, Perez went on to play for the Mexican National Team from 2004 until her retirement in December of 2010. The goalkeeper has 30 caps to her credit and was a part of World Cup and Olympic qualifying teams over her career.

More recently, Perez was the starting goalkeeper for the Orange County Waves, which won the 2011 WPSL national championship. Perez was the WPSL West Coast Co-Goalkeeper of the Year, an all-WPSL first-team selection and was named to the 2011 Champions Team.

As a coach, Perez worked with the goalkeepers as an assistant coach at Mesa College in San Diego for four seasons prior to her stint at San Diego State. During her tenure, Mesa[apos]s goalies garnered all-conference accolades three times.

Perez is also currently a coach for the Point Loma Riptide, a club team in San Diego. She is the head coach for the U14 squad, while also coaching all of the Riptide[apos]s goalkeepers across all age groups.
