Tall, athletic wide receiver, who came to The Mesa in the spring of 2021 with four seasons of SEC experience, including 2020 at Mississippi State, and 2017-19 at Alabama ...  Also is an excellent special teams player ... Was one of 56 players in program history with multiple 100-yard receiving games ... Ranked in a tie for third in program history in blocked kicks (3) ... SENIOR SEASON (2022)
Was named a second-team all-Mountain West selection, the first Aztec wide receiver to earn first or second-team honors since both Vincent Brown and DeMarco Sampson were first-team picks in 2010 ... Also was a third-team honoree by Pro Football Focus and Phil Steele Magazine ... Was named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List (ties to Texas) ... Also was named a preseason fourth-team all-Mountain West selection by Phil?Steele Magazine ... Had 38 catches for a team-high 643 yards (16.9 avg.) with three touchdowns, starting all 13 games ... Had a long reception of 66 yards ... Also had a blocked kick and return for a touchdown ... Led the Mountain West in yards per reception (16.92, T-38th in FBS), was sixth in receiving yards (643) and eighth in receiving yards per game (49.46) ... JUNIOR SEASON (2021)
Was named “SDSU’s top incoming transfer” by Lindy’s Sports ... Played in 13 of the team’s 14 games with four starts ... Had 18 catches for 213 yards (11.8 avg.) and two touchdowns on offense ... Was even better on special teams, logging two punt blocks and recovering another for a touchdowns as well ... Tied for second in FBS in blocked kicks (2, 1st in MW) and tied for fifth in punt return touchdowns (off a blocked punt) (1, T-1st in MW) ... His two blocked kicks were one off tying a school single-season record (Brad Burton, three in 1989) ... Made his Aztec debut in the opener against New Mexico State, playing 19 statless snaps ... Saw action in 29 offensive snaps at Arizona on Sept. 11 with did not make a catch ... Gave San Diego State a 21-0 lead in the first quarter when he recovered a punt blocked by Kaegun Williams and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown ... It was his third career touchdown and second via returning a blocked punt (also Sept. 26, 2020 at No. 6/5 LSU while with Alabama) ... Had a 10-yard catch, his first as an Aztec, in 28 snaps against Utah on Sept. 18 ... Also blocked a punt, SDSU’s second straight game with a blocked punt ... Earned his first start as an Aztec (second of his career) against Towson on Sept. 25, where he made a 9-yard catch ... Also blocked a punt (second straight game with one), which was returned for a touchdown by Trenton Thompson and gave SDSU a 28-14 lead in the third quarter ... The touchdown proved to be the game-winning score ... Had two catches for a team-high 39 yards (19.5 avg.) with a long of 23 in a start and 51 snaps vs. New Mexico on Oct. 9 ... Earned another start at San José State on Oct. 15 where he made an 11-yard catch in 50 snaps ... Came off the bench to play 26 snaps at Air Force on Oct. 23, making a 6-yard catch ... Had two receptions for 39 yards (19.5 avg.) and a touchdown in 50 offensive snaps in a reserve role against Fresno State on Oct. 30 ... Caught his first touchdown pass as an Aztec, which was for 19 yards and put the Aztecs on the scoreboard ... Started at Hawai’i on Nov. 6, where he had three catches for 28 yards (9.3 avg.) with a long of 11 yards ... Ended up playing 43 of the team’s 62 offensive snaps ... Had three catches for 15 yards (5.0 avg.) with a long of seven yards off the bench against Nevada on Nov. 13 ... Ended up playing 39 snaps on offense ... Was unable to make a catch in 33 snaps off the bench at UNLV on Nov. 9 ... Made a pair of grabs for 27 yards (13.5 avg.) in 33 offensive snaps off the bench against Boise State on Nov. 26 ... Did not travel to play Utah State in the Mountain West Championship game on Dec. 4 ... Came off the bench for two catches for 26 yards (13.0 avg.) and a touchdown against No. 24/25 UTSA in the Tropical Smoothie Frisco Bowl on Dec. 21 ... The 24-yard touchdown put the Aztecs up, 31-17, with 2:39 left in the third quarter and proved to be the game-winning score ... Caught his second touchdown pass of the season and third of his career ... The 24-yard grab was a season long ... Logged 32 snaps overall.

AT MISSISSIPPI STATE (2020)
Played four games last year with the Bulldogs with one start, making nine catches for 107 yards and a touchdown … Best game came in MSU’s opener against defending national champion and sixth-ranked LSU on Sept. 26 when he had two catches for 68 yards in a start, including a 31-yard touchdown.

AT ALABAMA (2017-19)
Spent three seasons at Alabama, where he played in all 28 games after redshirting the 2017 campaign … Logged time in 13 games as a sophomore, making one catch for 20 yards and adding a 14-yard rush … Also recovered a blocked punt against Texas A&M near the Aggies’ goal line, taking the ball across the plane for a 2-yard touchdown … Played all 15 games as a freshman in 2018 for a team that lost to Clemson in the College Football Playoff National Championship after starting the season off with a 14-0 record ... Arrived in January 2017 as an early enrollee and participated in spring drills ... Also played baseball at Alabama during the 2019 season but did not get into a game.

Was one of the elite wide receiver prospects in the 2017 class out of Lewisville High School in Lewisville, Texas ... Was a unanimous four-star recruit ... Was ranked 70th in the Top247 while being listed as the No. 12 wide receiver and ninth-best player overall in the state of Texas ... The 247Composite listed Shavers as the No. 88 player overall, the No. 12 receiver and No. 11 player in Texas ... Scout seeded him at No. 83 in the Scout300, the No. 3 receiver in the Midland region and 13th nationally ... Also was ranked No. 133 in the ESPN300, the No. 19 wide receiver, No. 22 in the state of Texas and No. 24 in the Midland region ... Tyrell Lamar Shavers was born Aug 18, 1999, in Lewisville, Texas ... Son of Tyrone and Yolanda Shavers ... Chose Alabama out of high school over offers from LSU, Georgia, Texas, Texas A&M, Michigan, Oklahoma State, Auburn, Florida State, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Miami (Fla.), Stanford, Colorado, Arizona State, Iowa, Texas Tech, Arkansas, Iowa State, SMU and Louisiana ... Is working on a master’s degree in homeland security and conflict resolution.
