Entering 2022 season

Joined the Aztecs for the 2020 season after two years at Fullerton College ... Is from the same high school as former Aztec great running back Ronnie Hillman ... Enters his final season at SDSU sixth on the depth chart at the ‘T’ running back position.

JUNIOR SEASON (2021)
Played in his first five Division I games, mostly on special teams ... Carried three times for three yards (1.0 avg.) ... Was on the travel squad for the opener against New Mexico State (Sept. 4) but did not play … Played in his first Division one game the following week at Arizona (Sept. 11) … Carried for the first time vs. Towson on Sept. 25, rushing three times for three yards (1.0 avg.) with a long run of five yards … Also played on special teams at San Jose State (Oct. 15), at Air Force (Oct. 23) and against Fresno State (Oct. 30) … Did not play over the team’s six gamers of the season. 

REDSHIRT SEASON (2020)
Did not play during his first season at San Diego State.

FULLERTON COLLEGE (2018-19)
Played two seasons at Fullerton College ... Rushed for 598 yards and five touchdowns on 128 attempts (4.7 avg.) in 20 games, while adding 16 catches for 74 yards (4.6 avg.) and another score ... Played in 10 games as a freshman in 2018, rushing 57 times for 358 yards (6.3 avg.) and two touchdowns, and adding five receptions for 24 yards (4.8 avg.) and another score ... Best game came in a 33-28 win vs. Ventura on Sept. 29 when he rushed for 123 yards on 17 carries (7.2 avg.) ... In 10 games as a sophomore in 2019, he ran for 240 yards and three touchdowns on 71 attempts (3.4 avg.), while catching 11 passes for 50 yards (4.5 avg.).

HIGH SCHOOL
Prepped three years at La Habra High School ... Was voted the team’s hardest worker ... Was a scholar-athlete.

PERSONAL
Winthrop (Lucky) Avinger was born Dec. 23, 1997, in Long Beach, Calif. ... Son of Skinner and Nicole Avinger ... Brother, Noah (sophomore football cornerback), and sister, Asia (sophomore women’s basketball guard), are twins on SDSU teams ... Is majoring in interdisciplinary studies.
