Joined the program in the spring of 2022 after stints at Virginia Tech (2019-21) and Oregon (2017-18) ... Possesses a strong throwing arm ... Can get out of the pocket and make things happen with his legs ... Has started 20 times and appeared in 29 games over his career ... Combined he has thrown for 3,020 yards with 19 touchdowns against 11 interceptions, completing 239 of his 426 attempts (56.1 pct.) … Also has rushed for 834 yards and seven touchdowns on 234 attempts (3.6 avg.) … Enters the 2022 season as the projecting starting quarterback.

Also has been chosen as a preseason all-MW fourth-team selection by Phil Steele Magazine ... Is rated as “SDSU’s No. 6 player” by Athlon Sports and a “SDSU player to watch” by Lindy’s Sports.

AT VIRGINIA TECH (2019-21)
Went 9-7 in his two years at Virginia Tech, completing 190 of his 339 passes (56.0 pct.) for 2,647 yards and 16 touchdowns against just five interceptions … Also rushed for 690 yards and four touchdowns … Was particularly effective last season where he was 142-for-255 (55.7 pct.) for 1,960 yards and 14 touchdowns with just four interceptions, while rushing 116 times for 508 yards (4.4 avg.) and two scores … Most of his career highs came last year at Virginia Tech, including 254 yards and two touchdowns in a 26-17 win over Georgia Tech (Oct. 30), three touchdown passes on just 15 attempts (for 215 yards) in a 48-17 win over Duke (Nov. 13) and 115 rushing yards in a 29-24 win over Virginia (Nov. 27) … Rushed for 238 yards over his final three games (79.3 avg.) … Sat out the 2019 season at Virginia Tech because of NCAA transfer rules.

AT OREGON (2017-18)
Played in four games as a sophomore at Oregon in 2018, completing 5 of 10 passes and rushing for 29 yards … Made five starts and played in seven games as a true freshman in 2017, completing 44 of 77 passes (57.1 pct.) for 330 yards and two touchdowns (and six interceptions).

HIGH SCHOOL
Prepped at La Jolla Country Day in nearby La Jolla, where he was a first-team Parade All-American and “Rising Star” following his senior season ... Also was named one of the top 100 recruits on the West Coast by the Tacoma News Tribune ... Set CIF San Diego Section career records in total yards (14,972), passing yards (11,512), passing touchdowns (127) and pass completions (853) in four varsity seasons ... Also was selected first-team All-CIF San Diego Section ... Threw for 4,461 yards and 53 touchdowns with just eight interceptions as a senior in 2016, while also rushing for 1,470 yards and 27 touchdowns ... Led La Jolla Country Day to a CIF Division 5-A runner-up finish … Passed for 2,771 yards and 31 touchdowns as a junior, while rushing for 868 yards and 20 touchdowns … Threw for 3,112 yards and 30 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2014, and added 553 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground … Was a four-star recruit by Rivals out of high school, and a three-star recruit by 247sports and ESPN … Rivals ranked him as the seventh-best dual-threat quarterback in the 2017 class and 27th overall recruit in California … Finished as a four-star and the No. 10 dual-threat QB in the 247Sports composite rating … ESPN ranked him the No. 18 dual-threat QB and No. 46 in California.

Son of Dan Burmeister and Angela Lily-Burmeister ... Father, Dan, played safety at North Carolina from 1983-86 ... Was coached and mentored by former Cincinnati Bengals QB Akili Smith (D1-1999) since the fourth grade ... Has degrees in sociology, and sports media and analytics.
