SAN DIEGO – Junior guard Latrell Davis, who attended and competed for San Jose State for the past two years, has signed an athletics aid agreement and is the newest member of the San Diego State men’s basketball program. The announcement was made by head men’s basketball coach Brian Dutcher on Friday.

In two seasons as a Spartan, the London, England, native averaged 8.5 points, 2.6 rebounds in 19.9 minutes per game, but in four games against San Diego State his scoring went up to 14.3 points on 52.6 percent (20-of-38) shooting from the floor and 47.6 percent (10-of-21) from distance with 1.8 boards and 0.5 assists per game.

For his San Jose State career, he totaled 12 starts among 66 appearances and shot 47.1 percent (187-of-397) from the field, 36.5 percent (62-of-170) from distance, and 67.4 percent (128-of-190) from the line with 171 boards, 77 assists, 29 steals and a blocked shot.

Last season, Davis was the only player on the SJSU roster to appear in all 35 games, making nine starts. He averaged 11.1 points and 3.1 rebounds in 25.3 minutes per game. He added 58 assists and 21 steals while shooting 45.3 percent (124-of-274) from the floor, 38.3 percent (51-of-133) from beyond the arc, and 68.5 percent (89-of-130) from the line.

He reached double figure scoring in 18 games and scored 20 or more on seven occasions ,which included a 30-point effort, his career high, at Fresno State (2/4). In the Fresno State game, a double overtime win for the Spartans, he totaled 17 of the team’s 27 points in extra time on 6-of-6 shooting, including knocking down each of the four triples he attempted.

The second-best scoring effort of his college career came in Viejas Arena (1/28) this past season, when he dropped 23 points in 24 minutes on the Aztecs, including five 3-pointers, and in the team’s 71-70 victory against New Mexico (1/14), Davis hit the game winner with two seconds to play. In 13 games he grabbed at least four rebounds with a career-high nine versus UTEP (11/25).

As a freshman in 2023-24, he appeared in 31 games, all but two off the bench, and averaged 5.7 points and 2.0 rebounds in 13.9 minutes per outing. He totaled 19 assists, eight steals and a block while shooting 51.2 percent (63-of-123) from the field, 29.7 (11-of-37) percent from distance, and 65.0 percent (39-of-60) from the line.

In eight double figure scoring efforts, his 20 points against Wyoming (2/17/24) were a season best. He knocked down at least four buckets in eight games with a season-high seven coming in the Wyoming contest. In the 20 games in which he made at least one field goal, he shot at least 40.0 percent in 18 of them. His season high for rebounds, seven, came against Santa Clara (12/20/23) and was one of six games where he pulled down at least four.

While attending First Baptist Academy in Naples, Florida for his final two years of high school, he represented Great Britain in the FIBA U18 European Championships in 2022 and 2023. In 42 games, according to Maxpreps, he averaged 19.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.8 steals in 20.9 minutes per game.

As a junior captain, his first season as a Lion, he averaged 16.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.6 steals as he led the squad to a 26-3 record and the semifinal round of the Florida Class 2A state tournament. For his efforts he was named Class 2A first-team all-state, Florida Athletic Coaches Association Class 2A Region 18 Player of the Year, first-team all-area, and First Baptist Academy Player of the Year. In addition, he garnered a Class 2A state Final Four All-tournament Team designation.

As a senior, the team was 18-8 and he averaged 23.7 points,  7.9 boards, 3.3 assists, and 2.0 steals per game in leading FBA to a berth in the Class 3A state tournament and earning his second first-team all-area designation.

With Davis’s signing, he joins Sean Newman Jr., and Jeremiah Oden as the third transfer the program has added in the offseason to go along with freshmen Tae Simmons and Elzie Harrington, both four-star recruits.
