SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s golf team begins the Mountain West Championship Tuesday. For the 12th consecutive year, the championship will take place at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif. and will be played on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course (par-72, 6,286 yards).
Teams will play 18 holes Tuesday-Thursday, and the winner will earn the conference’s automatic berth into the NCAA Championships.
Entering the championship, five programs are ranked in the top 100 nationally. UNLV leads the way at No. 38, followed closely by San José State at No. 45. Colorado State (No. 89), Boise State (No. 92) and New Mexico (No. 98) are also in the top 100, while Nevada (No. 107) and San Diego State (No. 108) are just outside. Fresno State (No. 142) and Wyoming (No. 188) round out the field.
The SDSU lineup for the championship will be Stephanie Barbaglia, Maya Benita, Ema Narita, Kylie Phi and Emilia Omander.
Barbaglia leads the team in stroke average (73.8), adjusted stroke average (73.7), national ranking (No. 345) and record (402-285-23). Last year she finished fourth at the MW championship, which tied for third best in program history and was the highest finish since 2018.
Benita has finished in the top two among Aztec golfers in each of the past two tournaments and has the second-best record on the team in the spring (214-148-17).
Narita has been SDSU’s best golfer in the spring, leading the team in stroke average (73.9) and record (229-132-22). She has led the Aztecs in four of their five spring tournaments and leads the team in count percentage (94.6%) on the year. She tied for 15th place at the MW championships last year with a 218 (+2).
Phi leads the team in count percentage in the spring (95.8%) and is second on the team in stroke average in the spring (74.38). She has won MW Freshman of the Week three times, which is a school record.
Omander has played in every tournament this spring. She had her best showing at SDSU’s home tournament, the San Diego State Classic where she shot a career-low 224 (+8).
The Aztecs will tee off between 7:00 and 7:36 a.m. PT and are paired with Boise State and UNLV.
