SAN DIEGO – San Diego State men’s tennis welcomed No. 10 Harvard to the Aztec Tennis Center on Tuesday. The Aztecs came close in a few matches, but couldn’t overcome the Crimson, who earned a shutout 7-0 victory.
In doubles, Alexander Mandma and Mathieu Josserand were neck and neck with Daniel Milavsky and David Lins in the top spot, but the match was left unfinished, tied 4-4, when Harvard secured the point.
On court two, Paul Janson and Liam Spiers fell 6-2 to Benjamin Privara and Melchior Delloye. Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice and Philipp Bosse were bested 6-3 by Valdemar Pape and Masato Perera on court three.
Facing Milavsky, the No. 23 singles player in the nation, Bosse dropped the first set 6-1 on court one. The sophomore battled in the second set, but ultimately came up short 6-4.
On court six, Spiers fell 6-1, 6-1 to Mitchell Lee to give Harvard a 3-0 lead.
Delloye clinched the match for the Crimson with a win on court five, defeating freshman Paul Janson 6-3, 6-3.
The teams opted to play the match through. In the second spot, Mandma fell 6-3, 6-4 to No. 83 Benjamin Privara.
Gonzalez Fitzmaurice came up short in a hard-fought matchup against Pape, who took court three 6-4, 6-4.
Rohan Murali put the final point on the board for Harvard. On court four, Josserand dropped the first set 6-1. The senior rallied in the second, but could not push past Murali, who took the set 7-6 (7-2).
Next up, San Diego State takes on Wichita State at the Aztec Tennis Center on Friday, beginning at 2 p.m.
