Women’s Tennis Set for No. 7 Duke and Air Force

San Diego State women’s tennis is gearing up for back-to-back matches this week, concluding the non-conference slate with No. 7 Duke on Thursday at 2 p.m., followed by the conference opener against Air Force on Friday at 2 p.m., both to be played at the Aztec Tennis Center.

SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women’s tennis is gearing up for back-to-back matches this week, concluding the non-conference slate with No. 7 Duke on Thursday at 2 p.m., followed by the conference opener against Air Force on Friday at 2 p.m., both to be played at the Aztec Tennis Center.

The Aztecs enter Thursday’s match 7-4 and ranked 41st in the ITA National Team Rankings. Last time out, the Scarlet and Black captured a dominant 4-0 win over No. 43 San Diego. On a three-match winning streak, San Diego State also recently took down No. 30 UCLA and Hawai’i.

The Blue Devils boast a 10-2 overall record, 4-0 in the ACC and 4-1 on the road. They are the seventh ranked team in the nation and are currently on a five-match winning streak, most recently shutting out No. 24 Clemson 4-0 on March 9.

This will be just the second meeting between the two programs who have not faced each other since May 14, 1992 in the NCAA Tournament, where Duke earned a 5-1 victory. 

The Falcons are 6-7 on the season and have won their last two matches against Omaha and St. Thomas.

San Diego State enters Mountain West play as the highest ranked team in the league. Following the Aztecs is Fresno State in 72nd. Friday’s contest will kick off a ten-match conference schedule.
