SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State is 25th in the latest D1Softball rankings, which was released Monday on D1softball.com. The Aztecs (25-10, 9-0 MW) enter the rankings for the first time this season amid an 11-game win streak, tied for the sixth longest in the country.
Just ahead of SDSU is No. 21 Ohio State, No. 22 Michigan, No. 23 UCF and No. 24 Missouri. San Diego State is 1-2 against teams in the current D1Softball rankings with a 7-5 victory over current No. 16 Washington, and 7-6, extra-inning losses to No. 6 Northwestern and No. 24 Missouri. Oklahoma is ranked first with a 32-0 record, while UCLA, Florida State, Virginia Tech and Alabama round out the top 5. The Aztecs and No. 23 UCF are the only two Group of 5 teams in the rankings.
SDSU is 9-0 in Mountain West play for the first time since starting 13-0 in 2006. The 9-0 start is tied for San Diego State's second-best start in league history (also 2003). The Aztecs have swept three straight league series for the first time since the MW went to a three-game series format in 2012.
SDSU's 11-game winning streak is also tied for its fifth-longest winning streak in program history and longest since winning a school-record 13 straight games from March 12-April 6, 2013. That stretch was one of four times San Diego State has won 13 straight games.
SDSU travels to UNLV for a crucial weekend series with games set for 6 p.m. PT Friday, 3 p.m. PT Saturday and noon PT Sunday. The Aztecs and Rebels (27-6, 5-1 MW) were each picked to win the MW in a preseason poll voted on by the league's coaches, tallying 57 points apiece.
