SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Diego State is set to open a three-game Mountain West baseball series at San Jose State with a contest this evening set to get underway at 7:00 p.m. at Municipal Stadium in San Jose.

The Spartans come into the weekend with a record of 15-27-1 overall and 8-14-1 in conference play. SJSU is one of four teams vying for a fourth-place finish and a berth in the Mountain West Tournament that sees only the top four league finishers qualify.

Toward that end, the Spartans will send right-hander Matt Brown (4-5, 5.92) to the mound to start tonight's game.

San Jose State is led offensively by shortstop Aaron Pleschner (.300, 5 2B, 17 RBI) and center fielder Kellen Strahm (.298, 4 2B, 7 RBI). First baseman Shane Timmons leads the team with seven home runs and 33 RBI. The Spartans are hitting .259 as a team with a 6.03 earned run average.

After its 8-6 win at UCLA on Tuesday, San Diego State's record now stands at 31-15 overall and 14-7 in league action.

SDSU senior lefty Brett Seeburger (8-1, 2.98) will get the starting call for tonight's series opener. He leads the league in wins as well as earned run average coming into the weekend.

Outfielder/third baseman David Hensley had a nine-game hitting streak come to an end in the series finale at UC Santa Barbara on April 23. Since that game, he has hit safely in five straight games and has now done so in 14 of SDSU's last 15 contests. Over that span, he is hitting .459 (28-for-61) with a double, triple, three home runs, 12 RBI and 14 runs scored.

Chase Calabuig hit his sixth homer of the year at UCLA on Tuesday (May 2), a run that tied the contest at 6-6. He finished the game with four hits to tie his career best in a single game, which he set in the contest at UC Riverside on April 18.

In addition to that pair, Catcher Dean Nevarez is hitting .368 over SDSU's most recent 11 games and Danny Sheehan is currently on an 11-game hitting streak during which he has gone 15-for-37 (.405) with three doubles, three home runs, 11 RBI and 11 runs scored.

Alan Trejo has also had a hot bat of late as he is hitting .407 (22-for-54) with three doubles, a home run, 11 RBI and 13 runs scored over SDSU's last 13 contests.

San Diego State and San Jose State will continue their series on Saturday (May 4) with a game slated to start at 4:00 p.m. at Municipal Stadium.
