SAN DIEGO - San Diego State will open a three-game series against Cal Poly this evening with a contest scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. PT start at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
Cal Poly comes into the weekend with a record of 2-6 after breaking a six-game losing streak with an 11-7 win at Santa Clara on Tuesday. The Mustangs opened the season with a win over No. 22 California, but then lost six straight before defeating the Broncos earlier this week. This weekend's series marks the final three games of Cal Poly's season opening schedule of 11 consecutive road contests.
The Mustangs are expected to starter right-hander Erich Uelmen on the mound in tonight's series-opening game. The junior from Las Vegas, Nev., is 1-1 with a 2.03 earned run average in his two appearances this season. He has recorded 16 strikeouts and walked only four in 13.1 innings.
The Aztecs' record stands at 5-4 after they defeated Long Beach State, 5-4, on the road Tuesday night. Senior left-hander Brett Seeburger (1-0, 3.60) will get the pitching start for the Aztecs this evening.
