San Diego State will welcome Fresno State to Viejas Arena on Sat., Feb. 4 for a 2 p.m. contest. The game will be the Aztecs' Girls and Women in Sport Day contest. Girls and Women in Sports Day celebrates female athletic achievement and recognizes the importance of sports and fitness preparation for all girls and women.
In its last game on Weds., Feb. 1, San Diego State faced a Wyoming team that produced its finest shooting performance of the season and couldn't push past, falling to the Cowgirls, 80-67, at Arena-Auditorium. San Diego State took care of the ball during the night, recording a season-low six turnovers and stole the ball six times, while the Cowgirls turned the ball over 14 times and had one steal.
SDSU and Fresno State will meet for the 43rd time. Since 1992-93, the Scarlet and Black is 8-4 against Fresno State at home. Expect Saturday's contest to be another tight affair. In conference play, San Diego State averages 65.8 points per game, while Fresno State puts up an average of 63.3 points. The Bulldogs rank third with a .414 field goal percentage, while SDSU is fourth, shooting .402 from the field. The Aztecs' MW 3-point field goal percentage is .348, and the Bulldogs' 3-point field goal percentage trails slightly at .338.
Fresno State (12-9, 5-5 MW) is coming off of one of its best performances of the conference season, using a 17-3 third-quarter run and a season-best 53.7 shooting percentage from the field to top Air Force, 72-56. The 2016 Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year, Bego Faz Davalos has emerged as one of the premiere players in the nation. The junior is ranked among the nation's top 15 in seven categories. She is one of three players this season to notch a triple-double, set a single-season record this year with 15 double-doubles to rank third, is second with 77 blocked shots and has 234 rebounds for seventh nationally.
