SAN DIEGO - On Saturday morning, the San Diego State rowing team will continue its fall slate as it will face UCLA in Marina Del Rey, Calif. The Aztecs and the Bruins will begin the first race at 8 a.m. The two schools will matchup in four different races this weekend.
Competition will get underway with the third varsity eight showdown. The two varsity four crews will take to the water for the second race at 8:15 a.m. The second varsity eight duel will follow at 8:30 a.m. The final race of the day will be the two top boats, the varsity eights, at 8:45 a.m.
Saturday will serve as UCLA’s first event of the spring season. The Bruins have advanced to the NCAA Championship in four of the last six seasons including a most recent 12th-place showing in 2014.
SDSU is coming off of a two-race weekend on Feb. 27-28 in which it faced Loyola Marymount and USC. San Diego State’s second eight crew topped LMU while the first eight finished just behind the Lions’ top eight. SDSU finished behind the Trojans in all four races entered the following day.
The Aztecs will work out of the UCLA Marina Aquatic Center which is located at 14001 Fiji Way in Marina Del Rey, Calif. Fans can park for free at Dock 52 or pay for parking at Fisherman’s Village. There will be no parking at the aquatic center. Full competition will be visible from the bike path that is located along Ballona Creek.
Following Saturday’s race against UCLA, San Diego State will head to northern California for the Sacramento State Triple Dual which will be held March 19-20.
