SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State football team will open its home season at Qualcomm Stadium this Saturday, Sept. 12, against Southern Utah in a game that will feature the KGB Skyshow XXXIV. The game kicks off at 5:30 p.m. PT, and will conclude with the 34th laser-light and fireworks show of its kind that has become a San Diego tradition.
This is the sixth consecutive season that SDSU has hosted the event. Saturday's game against Southern Utah will also give Aztec fans their first home look at new head coach Brady Hoke and his 2009 squad.
Tickets for the game and KGB Skyshow XXXIV can be purchased online at GoAztecs.com starting at just $11. Groups of 20 or more can purchase tickets at a discounted price.
It is also Aztec Football Legacy Weekend at San Diego State. At halftime, the 1969 Don Coryell-led SDSU team that finished the season undefeated will be recognized. More than 40 members of that 11-0 and 18th-ranked team will be on hand for the ceremony. The Aztec Football Legacy tailgate will take place in parking lot G-2 and will be open to any SDSU football alumni.
In addition to the postgame fireworks show, fans can also enjoy one of the biggest SDSU tailgate events to date. Aztec Village and Sky Show Village will be teaming up in an event located in parking lot F-1 that features a live broadcast from KGB's Dave, Shelly, and Chainsaw. The Aztec women's volleyball and men's and women's soccer teams are also scheduled to appear at the tailgate, which opens at 2:30 p.m. and is free to the public.
The Welcome Week Student Tailgate in K-2 of the Qualcomm Stadium parking lot will take place from 3:30-5 p.m., and is free for all San Diego State students. The event, hosted by Associated Students and SDSU Athletics, features a Vegas Night theme with free food, music and an exciting lineup of contests and interactive sponsors.
During halftime of the game, the Marching Aztecs will perform a Rock `N Roll spectacular to the music of Led Zeppelin and Foo Fighters.
