LONG BEACH, Calif. - In its first road match of the season, No. 46 San Diego State dropped a 5-2 decision to 57th-ranked Long Beach State Thursday afternoon at the 49er Tennis Courts. With loss, the Aztecs fall to 2-1 on the season.
San Diego State began the afternoon by letting the doubles point slip away. The two schools split a pair of matches with SDSU's number one doubles team of Dita Hauerlandova and Sisse Nielsen defeating Sandra Rocha and Katy Williams by a score of 8-2. The doubles clinching contest came at No. 2 as Long Beach State's Hannah Grady and Jessica Weeks rallied from a 6-3 deficit to defeat Eliska Krausova and Milana Yusupov, 9-8(7-2), to take the doubles point.
In singles action, Hauerlandova posted her second victory of the season with her 7-5, 6-4, effort over 49er freshman Hannah Grady, while Esther Cadua was victorious at No. 6 winning in three sets over Emmanuelle Tabatroung.
The Aztecs return to the courts this Sunday, Feb. 5, when they host the University of Oregon. The match is scheduled for a noon start at Aztec Tennis Center.
