Final Stats

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State got an early second half goal, but couldn't make the lead hold up as Denver came from behind to claim the victory 2-1. With the loss, the Aztecs fall to 2-8-1, 2-2 in the MPSF. The Pioneers improve to 6-3-1, 3-1 in the MPSF.

SDSU and Denver played to a 0-0 draw in a rough first half that saw a combined five yellow cards and 15 fouls. However, it was the second half that saw the real fireworks. The Aztecs would strike first, scoring a goal on a cross from freshman David Dally that senior Frank Caruso headed in (50:40) for his second goal of the season. Dally and Colter McArdle tallied assists on the play.

Denver followed the Aztec score with a goal of their own, eerily familiar to the SDSU play just minutes earlier as the Pioneers Mike Seager delivered a cross to Mark Wellen, who sent in a header of his own to notch the equalizer (53:05). Denver found the game-winner fifteen minutes later as Pioneer Kyle Christensen took a pass off a Denver free kick and slipped a shot (70:24) between Aztec defenders and just past SDSU keeper Tally Hall's outstretched hands.

For the game, Denver outshot SDSU (13-11), but both teams had five shots on goal. The Aztecs trailed the Pioneers in corner kicks 4-1.

SDSU returns to MPSF play Friday as the Aztecs travel to Sacramento State for a 4 p.m. match.
