SAN DIEGO - The 29th-ranked San Diego State men's golf team, fresh from a runner-up finish in the Mountain West Conference Tournament, has been chosen to participate in the 27-team NCAA west regional.
The tournament will be held May 15th-17th at the Washington National Golf Club in Auburn, Wash., and hosted by the University of Washington. The top 10 finishers will advance to the NCAA Championship May 28th-31st in Stillwater, Okla. The Aztecs will be seeded 10th in the regional.
"The good news is that we only have to play to our abilities in order to advance to the national championship tournament," said head coach Dale Walker. "Our program is solid enough that we expect to be in a regional every year. Our goal is to take the next obvious step."
The 2003 appearance will be San Diego State's fifth consecutive in an NCAA regional. San Diego State has not advanced to the NCAA Championship since 1999 but has made 22 appearances overall in the NCAA field and has finished among the nation's top 10 three times.
