San Diego State Women's Basketball Rounds Out
Its Non-Conference Schedule In Portland, Sacramento

The SDSU women's basketball team heads out of San Diego for the first time since November 30, traveling to Portland State and Sacramento State for its final non-conference games of the regular season. The Aztecs are in search of their third straight win after ending a four-game homestand with a 56-52 overtime victory against UMKC Sunday.

San Diego State won last season's battle with both schools on this week's road trip, including a 73-51 victory against Portland State at Cox Arena on Jan. 5, 2001. So far this season, the Aztecs and Vikings (4-8) have played two common opponents, coming out with similar results in wins over Cal State Northridge and losses to UC Irvine.

-The Records: SDSU (5-5) looks capture the team's third straight victory when it travels to Portland State for a non-conference battle Thursday. The Aztecs have won back-to-back games and three of their last four to even their record at 5-5. Portland State, meanwhile, is on a four-game losing skid and brings a 4-8 overall record into the two schools' fifth all-time meeting.

-In The RPI: In the seventh RPI rankings released by the WBCA through games of January 5, SDSU moved to 216, while Portland State is No. 290. The Aztecs are No. 209 (College Basketball News) and No. 208 (Collegerpi.com), respectively, in the other major RPIs.

-SDSU Head Coach Jim Tomey: Tomey (Michigan '81) is in his first season at San Diego State, taking over the Aztec helm on April 9, 2002. His career and Aztec head coaching record is 5-5.
