Softball Sweeps Colorado State

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The San Diego State softball team swept both games of a doubleheader with Colorado State (3-1, 9-5) Friday afternoon in Fort Collins, Colo.

Kellie Nordhagen led the Aztecs, batting 6-9 on the day while scoring three runs and batting in two more. Christy Sears also had an impressive outing, batting 3-3 in game two of the doubleheader which included her second home run of the season and three RBI.

In game one, SDSU hurler Sandra Durazo allowed only four hits and one walk in a complete game outing.

The Aztecs came back from a 1-0 deficit in the top of the third when Nordhagen scored on a wild pitch followed by an error by Ram second baseman Amanda Kocis which allowed Sarah Hershman to score.

SDSU put the game away in the seventh when Tiffany Goudy tripled to bring home Hershman for her second run of the game.

Game two saw several lead changes as the Rams and Aztecs would need 10 innings to decide the outcome.

The Aztecs put the game away in the top half of the tenth. Sears opened the inning with a home run for the go-ahead run. Durazo would single to bring home Tashie Agui?aga. Next Kellie Nordhagen doubled to score Alexis Gutierrez, and finally Kellie Labor singled to score Nordhagen.

Durazo picked up both victories on the day and now stands at 25-8 on the season. The Rams' Kyla Kiester falls to 12-15 after suffering both losses.

Colorado State is now 17-29, 7-11 MWC while San Diego State now stands at 35-23 on the year, and 13-5 in the MWC. The Aztecs travel to Albuquerque, N.M., to face New Mexico tomorrow for their final doubleheader of the regular season. If the Aztecs sweep the twinbill, the 2000 squad will tie the school record for wins in a season.
